How does ranking work?
Two steps. First you say roughly how it felt: I liked it, It was fine, or I didn’t like it. Then bingd. puts it up against titles already in that group, one pair at a time, and each answer narrows down where it belongs. Five or six comparisons is usual. The 0 to 10 number is that position. It comes from where the title ended up in your list rather than from a rating you picked.
Why did a score change on something I ranked ages ago?
Because a score says where a title sits against everything else in the same group. Rank one more film you liked and that whole group spreads out again to make room. Your order is untouched; the list it sits in got longer.
How are films and TV handled?
As two separate lists that never meet in a comparison. For television you rank a season rather than a whole series, because six years of a show is not one thing anybody has a single opinion about. Ranking a season is how you say you watched it, so there is no separate step to mark it off. The series page adds up the seasons you have done.
What is the Watchlist for?
Things you mean to watch. It sits beside Watched in your Collection. Log or rank something and it drops off the watchlist by itself, because once you have watched it there is nothing left to intend. A whole series leaves once you have watched every season that has actually been released; specials, and seasons with no air date yet, do not hold it there. Unranking something later does not put it back, so add it again yourself if you want it.
Where do recommendations come from?
Two places. For you is built on your phone each time you open the tab, out of your own rankings, TMDB’s data about which titles resemble which, and things like genre, language and how widely watched something is. It reads no other bingd. account, and anything already in your collection is left out. Refresh changes which titles are on the wall, and the × on a poster says don’t show me this one. The second place is people: when somebody sends you a title it arrives under Sent to you, with whatever they wrote next to it.
How do I change which notifications I get?
Settings › Notification Settings, with a switch for each kind. Turn one off and that kind stops being written from then on; anything already in your inbox stays put. A notification only reaches your phone if you allowed that when bingd. asked, and your phone’s own settings for bingd. is where you take it back. Everything lands in the in-app inbox either way, so turning push off does not mean missing anything.
How do blocking and reporting work?
Blocking is between the two of you and works immediately: you stop seeing each other, any follow between you is removed, and unblocking does not bring it back. Reporting is a message to us. There is a Report on somebody else’s comment, behind the … on their review, and in the menu on their profile. You pick a reason, and the person you reported is never told who reported them. What is not allowed on bingd. is listed in the Terms.
How do I delete my account?
Settings › Account & Data. Type your handle, tap Delete my account, and confirm. It happens straight away and cannot be undone. Deleting your account sets out what goes, what is kept with nothing pointing at you, and the safety records that stay. If you cannot get into the app at all, write to us from the address on the account and we will do it for you.
Where does the film and TV information come from?
From TMDB. Titles, posters, cast, descriptions and dates are theirs, fetched by bingd.’s server and held for a while so the same request is not made twice. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. TMDB is a public database anyone can correct, so a wrong release date usually has to be fixed there. Tell us anyway if it looks broken in bingd.
Still need help?
Email support@bingd.app. Screenshots help more than anything else.
If you can, say what you were doing, what you expected to happen, and what happened instead. The phone you are on and the version at the bottom of Settings, which reads like bingd. 1.0.0 (7), save a round trip. One person reads this address, so it will not be instant, and it will be a person.
Not a support question? hello@bingd.app is the general address.
